TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

South Africa is one of the premier destinations for any Safari hunting trip. Please double check with your local Embassy about Visas well before your safari. Always keep in mind most Visa payments if any will always be charges in USD$ cash. Passports are required for travel to South Africa. (Please note that for the most part no Visas are required). American and European Union passports are sufficient for entries into South Africa. Please remember that your passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival to South Africa, and there must be at least 2 blank pages available for stamps. Your main entry into South Africa will be at one of our international airports. There are connecting flights to most other airports if you are booked on a connecting flight to reach your final destination. Your final flight destination will depend upon the area in which your safari is set to start.

When booking your safari, it is essential that you arrive one day prior to your first hunting day and leave the day after your last hunting day. Please check that your travel schedule indicates this. If you plan to bring your own rifle to South Africa, please make sure to confirm that with your Outfitter and Travel Agent. A temporary import permit from the South African Police Service is required to bring your rifle into South Africa. We work closely with a few agencies who will be assisting in doing the pre-approved permit application beforehand. Upon arrival you will be met by the PH and a rifle agent, which will accompany you to the permit office where you will pick up your rifle and then travel to the arrival office. Make sure all necessary import permits and other documentation are finalized before leaving for your trip. This process can be quite time-consuming, especially if other hunters has arrived on the same flight as you, or during the same time period. If you have a connecting flight, it is advisable to allow at least 3 (three) hours between flights to do all clearances.

We strongly recommend durable hard shell rifle case's with a good locking system for international travel to Africa, and a separate case for ammunition. We advise you bring along an additional soft case rifle bag per gun to protects the rifle from dust and bumps in vehicles when traveling from camp to hunting areas. Please make sure all rifles with scopes are zeroed before leaving home. We will be checking the scopes again before the hunting starts. Where possible go for a scope with variable power and try and find scope covers, as dust and moisture can affect ones’ chances of success.

Medical & Insurance

  • We advise on taking out International Travel and Medical Insurance before leaving on Safari. Your insurance should cover death, disability, illness, loss of personal belongings, flight cancellations, emergency medical treatment, etc. (Medical evacuation to your home country could be thousands of dollars)

  • Consult your Physician if you have any chronical medical conditions that might require precautionary measures or actions before or during the safari. Big Game Africa must be notified of any such conditions to have a precautionary action plan in place should any emergency arise.

  • Obtain the correct documentation from your Physician for medication that needs to travel with you on safari.
